Evie

My cleverest girl Evie

๐Ÿ’œ Remembering our Evie ๐Ÿ’œ

It was 5 days shy of 12 years, when we had to let Evie go. 12 years prior, my son and I traveled to the other side of Ireland to pick up one of the pups a farmer decided would be useless as a working dog. Turns out he was right - Evie had no interest in livestock whatsoever, not even slightly! When it came to Tennis balls, or sticks, or anything โ€œthrowableโ€, however, it was a different story altogether!

To say that Evie was a lively pup would be an understatement; she was an utter lunatic for the longest time. Her boundless energy was really difficult to harness at times. It took a lot of walking and even more mental stimulation.

Thankfully Evie was THE most intelligent dog I ever had the pleasure of working with. She loved training almost as much as fetch and picked up tricks at lightning speed.

Evie was very excitable and opinionated, and was not shy on expressing her feelings. Excitement had to be vocalized. Really loud and high-pitched. Preferable in tight enclosures, like cars. I always thought that, if her vocal cords would be removed, she would be the most perfect dog. (Just kidding!)

As it was, she was super close to perfect and I could easily write books about the shenanigans she got up to over 12 years.

Evieโ€™s diagnosis of Lymphoma came as a huge shock, as she never had any drastic issues in her time with us. She did not deserve this. In saying that, I am so grateful that we knew - that we got the opportunity to spend her last few days quietly, lovingly and mindfully. We reminded her of many funny incidents and stories, and made sure that she knew she was loved. ๐Ÿ’œ
